Happy Spring Everyone!! Hope everyone is well.
Our upcoming Annual Meeting is going to be on May 18th at 9:00am Located at Catawba Moorings (Thanks Rocky for donating your space.) We’ll see you all there. remember to give a proxy to another member if you are unable to attend.
Jack Keller and Shelly Carchedi are up for re-election at this meeting and they will not be running for office this year. So, we are looking for two new candidates to sign up for election. Please let Craig Oiler know if you are interested in a board position, so that he can get your name on a voting ballot at the annual meeting.
In addition, your annual Harbor Island association dues should be arriving soon in your mail box. If you have a change of information of any kind please advise Craig Oiler of those changes so you can receive pertinent information from us. Again, we have updated the Islands contact list. It is posted on our website. Please review your information there to confirm if any changes are needed.

Season’s Greetings Everyone!
Just a few updates for everyone.
First, I’d like to send a Thank You to Bill Vondra for mopping and scrubbing our fencing around our dumpsters this Fall. It really needed it and Bill stepped up to handle it. Thanks Bill we appreciate your time and efforts and it looked much better.
Second, I’d like to thank John Graham for taking the initiative to remake and update our HIA homeowners’ directory. Also, Thanks Craig and Shelly for their help in adds and edits to this. It is now posted on our website for you to access or print. If you have anything else that needs corrected or updated you can contact john Graham, or Craig Oiler with changes.
Next, thanks Jack Keller for your never-ending attention to our gate as well as setting up our snow plowing company for this year and negotiating pricing.
AND thanks Brandon Smith (our new Treasurer) for working behind the scenes handling all of harbor Islands billing and expenses.
And lastly, we’d like to update you on the roads. Thanks Chris for all your efforts towards this matter. Chris McKenna has been gathering and waiting on quotes from pavers. Basically, some pavers will not even consider coming over our bridge due to its weight restrictions. He has met with several vendors already and all of them have stated that the core of our roads are in very good shape still. Our main issues are where the roads have been dug up for gas or water lines. Even if patched vendors say these will likely sink again in time. To just apply more asphalt over the top of the road may cause water drainage issues in yards. At this time we are still gathering data, prices, and knowledge as to what the best course of action will be for the roads. We hope to have better facts to present at our spring annual meeting.
Thanks,

Hello all,
Just a few lines of information, requests, and reminders to pass along.
First, We are updating the associations Contact and Billing list. Please review our sites online contact list to verify that all your info is currently correct. Then notify Craig Oiler @ Dro@gcfamdent.com to verify accuracy or needed changes. Please make sure that you provide your preferred address and email for annual billing purposes. This will save him and volunteer John Graham’s time with the updating process. Please provide your info asap.
Second, A reminder, that trailers, RV’s, and boats are not allowed to be kept on properties. They must be stored in a garage or off-site.
Also, over labor day weekend it was observed that the city sewer workers were on our island to address a fat build up in our sewers. They have to treat this with chemicals currently to try to clear back ups and they do have a truck (Jetty Truck) to use if chemicals do not work but our bridge will not support its weight to come over the bridge. Also, we found out that flushable wipes are not really flushable and that they cause the fat build up to be worse because they do not break down. So this is just an ask that all of us try to refrain from flushing wipes and oils and grease down our drains in order to keep our sewers functioning properly.
Reminder, All changes to a property must be approved by the board before work begins.
Thanks everyone,

If you must throw away boxes please ensure that they are completely flattened. As there are many of us here sharing the space in our dumpsters.

Notice to All ,
There will be a special meeting for the current status of the bridge lawsuit with Rich Gillum (the Harbor Island Attorney). He’ll be here to answer questions on Sat. Sept. 25 at 9:00 am. The meeting will take place at Ed Kochalski’s home at 2943 N. Island Circle. This should not take long.
___________________________________________________________________________
All: the appellate court has reversed the trial court by finding that the appointment of the reciever was inappropriate for two reasons. First, because it was done on an emergency basis without notice and an opportunity of all defendants to be heard; and the second, because the court had not yet determined who has the right/obligation to replace the bridge-the owner, or the association on behalf of the residents. the case has been returned to the trail court for resolution of these issues and any other outstanding matters.
The trial court will hold a telephone status conference on October at 11:00 to decide what should happen next. (This is on the court docket I will fill it in. I think it’s the first.)
The Board will schedule a special meeting with the harbor island residents in September to discusss our next steps. The association attorney, Richard Gillum, will be present to anwser quuestions.
A complete copy of the appellate court decision has been posted to the HIA website.
Minutes of Annual Association Meeting
Scroll down to read the minutes from the 2021 meeting.
Harbor Island Beach Party
The Harbor Island party is scheduled for August 21st, from 3 to 7pm at the common lot beach. Music, food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided by the association.
Many of you have asked what you can do to help the day of the event. The coordinators for the event are Doug Newcomb, Vicki Pawson, Jeff and Tracey Medley, Frank and Shelly Carchedi, and Don and Dianna Miller. They are asking for volunteers to help setup and break down the event. There are also residents that have volunteered their expertise in cooking/decorating that they will reach out to directly. Please contact either Doug Newcomb, don@newcombcpa.com , Tracey Medley, traceyamedley@gmail.com or Frank Carchedi, fcar5510@gmail.com to get involved.
Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the members of Harbor Island Association will be Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 9:30 am at the home of Ed and Jacque Kochalski, 2943 N. Island Circle. Bring a chair. Storing Boats and RVs on Lots
This is a reminder to all neighbors that storing boats and other recreational vehicles in our driveways or on our lots is not permitted per our restrictions. There have been some complaints.
Erosion Mitigation Project
As we were directed at the annual meeting, the trustees obtained bids and have contracted with CL Fox Construction, Inc. to prevent further shoreline erosion along Island Circle. Owner Chris Fox believes it would be more prudent to wait until after Labor Day weekend to begin work. We are on his schedule for that time. If you have not yet paid your special assessment for this project, please forward $500 per lot/unit, payable to Harbor Island Association, 2851 N Island Circle, Port Clinton Ohio 43452 or drop your check off to Jan Feasel, 2929 Perch Row. Thanks!
Assessment for Erosion Mitigation
During the annual Harbor Island meeting on June 13th, an assessment was passed by the association to cover the costs of addressing the erosion along the entrance road along West Harbor. Each lot owner is being assessed $500. (Per lot). We are asking each homeowner to mail your check to Harbor Island, 2851 N Island Circle, Port Clinton Ohio 43452 or drop your check off to Jan Feasel, 2929 Perch Row. There will be no invoice mailed, so please submit your payment as soon as possible.
Harbor Island Annual Meeting June 13th
The annual Harbor Island Association meeting will be held:
When: June 13th
Where: Tommy Weilbacher’s house (at the end of Shad Row)
Time: 9am
Please bring a chair to sit on. If you can’t attend, please fill out your proxy and send it to one of the board members or give it to someone attending.
Court Appoints Receiver for Bridge
May 7th, 2020, the Court appointed John Coppeler, attorney in Port Clinton, to be Receiver for implementing the Harbor Island Bridge.
This appointment finally moves the bridge design and build forward. We expect that the bridge will be completed and operable by Spring of next year.
The court order is posted below, entitled “HIA vs. Stechschulte Receiver Judgement”.
We expect design to be completed in June, with selection of a contractor to follow in June-July. We will know costs for the bridge at this time, and will let our residents know at that time what each owner’s portion of the cost will be.
Thanks to all for the hard work that was put in to get this accomplished, especially resident attorney Ed Kochalski, attorney Rich Gillum, and our Harbor Island Board.
Annual Meeting Notice 2020
Our annual meeting, normally held in May, is being postponed due to the current pandemic. We tentatively plan to hold the meeting some time in June, conditions permitting. We will keep you informed as time progresses.
Our annual dues invoices will be mailed out this week, and will include voting proxies that you need to keep until our annual meeting takes place. We will send out an agenda for the meeting when appropriate.
Also, our current homeowners registry has been posted on our website. Please review it and send any corrections to Margie Marcinko at marcink11@yahoo.com.
Harbor Islanders,
The Harbor Island Board would like to share some great news with you – we have won the court case for a new bridge!
We actually got the court’s decision in late January and have been very busy trying to move the decision forward into actionable plans. We decided to wait to share this news until we had some of these plans developed.
First, the court’s decision was in favor of building a new bridge, and that the costs must be shared amongst the homeowners on the island, along with the NorEaster Club.
The board feels good about the division of costs, and we will share them as soon as the bridge costs come into better focus.
Secondly, we have had several subsequent meetings with the court, and feel confident that it supports our plans to move forward, including using our hand picked engineering firm, Poggermeyer Design Group to manage the overall design and build of the bridge. We have used them since the beginning of this suit, and feel that they are great partners to work with.
Of course, we have a lot of work in front of us, but feel very confident in getting a new, safe bridge completed within the next year.
The Board and all those associated with the lawsuit, including attorney Rich Gillum, engineer Jeff Yoder, and Especially resident volunteer Ed Kochalski, who has guided the Board through all of this, have all worked hard to get us to this point. We thank you all for your patience and support.
We look forward to seeing you all at our annual meeting in May, where we will be glad to answer any questions you may have.
